Graffiti

This is a picture of the Graffiti artwork that caught my eye whilst on my walk. I have decided I'm now going to study the basics of graffiti, where it comes from and why it's done. Graffiti is relevant to the artists life in some form of way.

One Word

I have been given another brief to work on, One word. This brief is about being given one word and using all my thoughts and ideas on this word and creating a project from this. My word is 'Walk'. I love this word as I think you can get so much out of it. There are so many different elements that i could look at that surrounds the word 'walk'.
I needed some inspiration to get me started on this project so I decided on doing the simplest of things based around my word. Take myself for a walk. I literally walked around my college and looked at anything and everything around me that took my interest, photographed it, took some sketches of what I could see, then I made some notes in a note book. I then went away and assessed all the information I had gathered and searched for a starting point within this information.
After assessing the work I had gathered together, one piece of Art work kept catching my eye. This was a piece of Art that another student had put together and painted on a display block. Everything about this artwork just attracted me more and more as I studied it. The colour, the shapes, the letters, the structure, and most of all, why was this done and where did it come from? This piece of Art was 'Graffiti'.

Where Topshop started.

Topshop first launched in 1964. With a different, affordable approach to the fashion world, Topshop became a leading high street store who's designs and clothing have never been known before on the high street.
The brand began in the underground of a department store in the North of England called Peter Robinson. After a year or so, this store allocated Topshop a space in the basement of its London branch at Oxford Circus. Right In the middle of one of the city's most famous shopping streets. Less than a decade later, Topshop became a stand-alone retailer. In 1994 the brand took over the entire 90,000 square ft space, and the iconic Topshop flagship was born. Still to this day it's the worlds largest fashion store on the high street attracting over 200,000 style shoppers every week.
Topshop has sponsored the globally recognised New generation scheme ( a scheme that showcases new talent and designers) since 2002. Which has bolstered the careers of fashion heavy weights such as Alexander McQueen and Matthew Williamson. As well as emerging talents like Christopher Kane, Danielle Scutt and Marios Schwab.
In September 2005 Topshop became the first high street retailer to show on the schedule during London Fashion week when it presented its own acclaimed in-house design collection 'Unique' created in 2001.
I am now going to continue on to research this brand 'Topshop Unique'.

Brief Scenario:
"You have been commissioned by Topshop to produce a top for their "Unique" range. This piece will be a limited edition piece of clothing for their Spring/Summer 2014 range. This project will explore pattern construction from basic block making to modelling on the stand to provide you with the foundations to create your chosen design. You will look at developing your ability to translate 2D fashion designs in to a 3D garment. NDI Gallery Art sculptures

These are sculptures made from recycled plastics I.E pegs, children's toys, buttons ect. ect.

Recycle in Art form

I have been doing some research on how recycling is influenced within Art. I found some links on the Internet from an Art gallery called NDI. This gallery focuses on using discarded everyday objects and creating them into three-dimensional artistic compositions. This specific art from originates from the early 20th century. Artists known for using this technique are :
Robery Rauschenberg
Man ray
Marcel Duchamp
Pablo Picasso.
In today's world, the genre encompasses everything from Eco-friendly art work to cheap recycled crafts. Few people now are unaware of just how amazingly creative recycled art form can be.
At this gallery they set out to assemble the finest examples they can find from around the world. This gallery is also designed to promote public awareness of recycled assembled art. They set out to showcase the Eco-friendly art to an increasing wider audience.
I enjoyed looking around this website as it changed my opinion and perception within art, about how it's not just about putting a paintbrush to paper, it's about exploring different techniques using everyday things that we just presume is rubbish and turning it into some breath taking Artwork.
Here are some images of the sculptures formed at this art gallery. The first three are sculptures of Nike Blazers, Titanium. I found it very appropriate to add these images into my research as the Nike Blazer trainers are a massive hit all over the world right now. The trainers have gone down like a storm in the fashion culture. This shows how fashion, art and recycle can be linked together. Something that was brought to our attention many decades ago (recycle art) is still being used now to change options and perceptions within climate and social changes.

Recycle Designers

Here is a designer that I have been studying. Gary Harvey, Couture fashion with a conscience.  Gary Harvey first drew attention to his couture recycled clothing on the London catwalk in February 2007. This was with his very stunning dress made from 30 ' Financial Times' news papers. This was showcased in the Estethica Exhibition. Gary produced this range of clothing to change people's opinions and perceptions on second hand clothing. He explained that "Good quality second hand clothing, people wear It once or twice then discard it because its suddenly deemed aesthetically unimportant And out of date when there are years left of life in the garment.
His collection "was a comment about thinking about the real cost of the garment that you buy, about that cost being natural resources, exploitation of labour, the biodegradable nature of garments."
Other dresses are made from discarded wedding dresses, laundry bags and t-shirts. All of which have an accompanying statement about why that item of clothing was chosen.

Recycle project

My recent project I am studying is all about recycle. This project is about the importance of recycle within the fashion industry. It's about recognising the reasons of  why we recycle and how it can be used within fashion. I am going the explore the different elements of recycling and the effect that the climate changes and social changes has on this. I will also be looking at designers and artists that revolve their work around recycled products and why they continue to do this on a day to day basis.
